This walk is a fun way to get to know the downtown area of Key West. You'll hit some of the island's top tourist spots, wander through the quieter neighborhoods, and check out the one-of-a-kind Key West cemetery.
The best place to kick off your walk is definitely Mallory Square. During the day, it's pretty quiet, and you'll probably spot a couple of cruise ships. But as sunset approaches, the place turns into a lively carnival scene. You really don't want to miss the Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square!
When you leave Mallory Square, you'll pass by the Shipwreck Museum and Key West Aquarium. Keep going down Front Street, and on your right, you'll spot the Truman Little White House—definitely worth checking out! As Front Street turns into Emma Street, you'll stroll by some really beautiful larger homes on your way to Truman Waterfront Park.
Truman Waterfront Park is home to the USCGC Ingham Maritime Museum aboard an older Coast Guard Cutter. They also have a farmers market every Thursday and host various events all year long.
Next up, head over to Whitehead Street. Don't miss The Hemingway House at the corner of Whitehead and Olivia Street—it's a must-see when you're in Key West. Olivia Street will lead you to the historic Key West Cemetery. Trust me, it's not like any other cemetery you've seen! If you've got some time, take a stroll and read the headstones—it's totally worth it!
After you've walked around the cemetery, you'll head over to the famous Duval Street. It's typically packed with tourists. This area is filled with shops, restaurants, and bars. Sloppy Joe's, Willie T's, and Hog's Breath are just a few of the many bars where you can catch live music most of the day.
When you reach the north end of Duval, you'll head back to Mallory Square to wrap up this walk. There's a ton to check out in Key West, and this is just a slice of it. Keep an eye out for more Key West walks that'll help you explore the rest of this wonderfully quirky island.
